History

Increasing Access to Misoprostol for Maternal Health is VSI's largest program. It is reaching 14 countries by building on efforts initiated in 2004 by VSI's parent organization and current collaborating partner, Venture Strategies for Health and Development (VSHD). The founders of VSHD envisioned a model for creating access to proven technologies for large-scale impact and codified it in the creation of a new organization, VSI. In 2008, the leadership team of VSHD launched VSI as an independent nonprofit organization.

VSI is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) private operating foundation headquartered in Anaheim, California with offices in Berkeley, California, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
