Global Maternal Health Conference

(NEW DELHI, INDIA) - Today marks the closing of the Global Maternal Health Conference, organized by the Maternal Health Task Force and the Public Health Foundation of India.  Hundreds of leading international experts convened in New Delhi to present their latest research and share ideas to advance the maternal health agenda. VSI presented on the topics of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), family planning and comprehensive abortion care. VSI also organized a panel on community-based interventions for PPH, the results of which were subsequently highlighted by a blogger from the Population Council.

Dr. Ndola Prata, Director, Medical and Programs at VSI and Associate Professor in Residence at UC Berkeley, presented Bringing their method of choice to rural women: Community based distribution of injectable contraceptives in Tigray, Ethiopia and organized a panel titled Community Interventions for Postpartum Hemorrhage where she presented data from VSI’s safe motherhood program in Tanzania. Additionally, Martine Holston, VSI's Director of Research and Implementation, presented Bringing abortion services closer to women: comprehensive abortion care pilot program in Tigray, Ethiopia which garnered keen interest and provocative comments on the shifting of services to lower level providers.  The conference provided a venue for greater collaboration between partners and the sharing of cross-cutting issues and research.
