Consortia & Working Groups
VSI participates actively in the following collaborations for women's health:
Postabortion
Care (PAC) Consortium
Misoprostol and PAC Task Force
The PAC Consortium was formed over a decade ago to inform
the reproductive health community about complications related to miscarriage
and incomplete abortion, and to promote PAC as an effective strategy for
addressing this global problem. In 2011, VSI became a member of the Steering Committee.
Established by Ipas, EngenderHealth (formerly AVSC),
Jhpiego, Pathfinder and the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the
consortium has grown in subsequent years to over 30 agencies. Individually and in collaboration, the
PAC Consortium agencies implement postabortion care programs around the world,
and also encourage technical agencies, governments and donors to incorporate
postabortion care into their own programs and policies as a critical step in
reducing deaths and injuries from complications related to miscarriage
and abortion.
Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises
New Technologies Working Group
Ongoing efforts by the Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises are addressing the lack of quality reproductive health care available to the world's 37 million refugees and internally displaced persons. With representatives of the International Medical Corps, PATH and UNFPA, VSI Medical Director, Dr. Ndola Prata is co-chairing the New Technologies Working Group.
Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition
Market Development Approaches Working Group
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition is a global partnership of public, private, and non-governmental organizations dedicated to ensuring that all people in low- and middle-income countries can access and use affordable, high-quality supplies to ensure their better reproductive health.
MCHIP (Maternal and Child Health Integration Program)
Pre-eclampsia and Eclampsia Drugs and Devices, Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) Drugs and Devices, and PPH at the Community Level Technical Working Groups
MCHIP is the USAID Bureau for Global Health’s flagship maternal, neonatal and child health program, which focuses on reducing maternal, neonatal and child mortality and accelerating progress toward achieving Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5.
Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage Initiative (POPPHI)
POPPHI was a USAID-funded partnership of PATH, RTI International, EngenderHealth, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). This Special Initiative was established to reduce postpartum hemorrhage through the expanded use of active management of the third stage of labor (AMTSL) at the facility and community level, and to make uterotonic drugs and devices available at low cost to countries. The project officially ended on December 31, 2009.
